Madeleine L'Engel's "A Wrinkle in Time" won the Newberry Medal, Sequoyah Book Award, and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award when the book was first published in 1962. Since then, it has inspired two film adaptations and multiple stage adaptations. The Steel Valley Middle School Drama Club brought an adaptation by Morgan Gould to the stage this weekend, with performances continuing tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Park Elementary students brought some spring and summer vibes for "Music in the Valley," a showcase of each grade's musical talents that took place on Wednesday, May 17.
Monday, May 16 was Step Up Day at the Middle School for our future fifth graders. Current fourth graders at Barrett and Park came together for some fun activities and bonding opportunities.
Will be presented on Thursday through Saturday May 18-20, at 7pm in the SVHS Auditorium. The Admission is $2.00.
With the Pennsylvania Primary Election fast approaching, the Steel Valley School District hosted a Meet the Candidates Night as part of its monthly community meeting on Wednesday, May 10 inside the high school auditorium.
The High School Concert Choir and Middle School Chorus gave their final performance of the school year with the Spring Vocal Program on Tuesday, May 9. It was final show for the Class of 2023 as well as the final show conducted by retiring choir director Ms. Sharon Kampe.
Anyone 6th, 7th or 8th grader or in high school planning on playing a sport next school year, physicals are being scheduled. All completed physicals forms must be turned into the Athletic Office by Friday, May 19th to be scheduled for a physical.
Congratulations for being nominated by their teacher for their performance on the PSSAs for working hard and having great attendance. They won up to 4 tickets to either May 6, May 7th or May 21st Pirate game game. Tickets were donated by Tickets for Kids and this was brought you by our PBIS Program.
Twenty-six Steel Valley seniors received $5,000 scholarships from alumnus Mr. Richard Bazzy during the district’s annual honors awards ceremony on Thursday, May 4. The Dr. Lawrence A. Griffin Senior Honors Awards Ceremony celebrates Steel Valley seniors who have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and who have been selected to receive a scholarship award from a local business, organization, alumni or community.
Steel Valley Class of 2023 valedictorian Brenna Kern and salutatorian Chelsea Bulger reflected on their achievements, shared their college plans, and reminisced on their time at Steel Valley in this conversation.
On May 20, 2023, SVSD Day of CommUNITY, from 1 pm-5pm a Plant tables will be set up in the Franklin Garden space at 220 East Oliver Road. Donations benefit the SVSD garden. Suggested donation $1 per plant. Pre-orders will be accepted on the Steel Valley Grows Garden FB page and via email to cschott@steelvalleysd.org. Please email for info on specific varieties available. Thank you to students throughout the district for helping to plant and repot seedlings this spring!
Introducing the Steel Valley Class of 2023 Top 10. These students did phenomenal work in the classroom in order to be ranked at the top of their class.
Tuesday night was the Steel Valley Instrumental Spring Concert, which featured the theme of "Ancient Times: A Journey Through Time." The evening featured performances from both the fifth and sixth grade concert band as well as the seventh through 12th grade concert band.

Steel Valley High School students spoke during the district's April community meeting, as they shared their experiences in the district. The next community meeting will be May 10 and serve as a Meet the Candidates night for those running for school board and borough council positions.
Steel Valley Middle School students competed in a total of 27 dodgeball games on Tuesday, April 4. The competitions featured fifth and sixth graders competing against each other and seventh and eighth graders competing against each other. The winning teams in each group took on the teachers and won bragging rights for the rest of the year.

The Steel Valley Drama Club is inviting guests to become part of their world for a few days this weekend, as they bring Disney's "The Little Mermaid" to the Steel Valley High School stage. The show opened Thursday night and continues Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at svdrama.com and at the door.
The spring 2023 PSSA exams will take place in late April and early May. The Middle School will be on a modified schedule on those dates - April 24, 25 and 26, and May 1 and 2. Please see this letter from Mr. Brown for full details.
On Friday, March 17th, SADD Officers attended the Second Annual Tobacco Resistance Unit (TRU) Conference in Irwin, PA at the Antonelli Event Center. Steel Valley SADD is excited to make this a new yearly tradition!
