A year after reintroducing seventh and eighth graders to its ranks, the Steel Valley Marching Band has continued to grow and improve through a summer marked by transition.

Visitors will soon be seeing a new addition to the entrances to each of our schools, as we are posting a welcome sign in multiple languages to reflect the wide range of languages our students and families speak.

Caring Closet - 9/11/23

Welcome Back to School! With our school year back in full swing, our Caring Closet has been in HIGH demand! With that being said- the Nurse and I are looking many items to be donated to replenish our closet.

Once again, this fall, Steel Valley Middle School Student Government is fundraising for our general account using Happy Valley Soup Company. I enjoyed this soup at the Shaker Woods Festival a few years back and thought it was a great way to kick off the “cooler” fall season. Corn Chowder and Stuffed Pepper are my personal favorites, but I am excited to try potato this year too. They are $9 each, and we received 50% profit.

Steel Valley Blood Drive September 20, 2023

The High School Student Council is hosting a Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 22 from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm in the high school gym.

Barrett Elementary is excited to announce that its PBIS program has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support Network for implementing Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of support with fidelity during the 2022-23 school year. Barrett will be recognized at the 2023 Integrated PaPBS Network and MTSS Implementers’ Forum held on November 1 through November 3, 2023 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, PA.

On Tuesday, September 5, Charlie Batch and his volunteers had a special guest with them as they handed out the backpacks full of school supplies to Steel Valley students. Steelers star T.J. Watt and his wife, Dani, joined Batch and volunteers from PepsiCo to deliver the packs.

Care Mobile: October

As a collaboration between UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, Inc., the Care Mobile offers no out-of-pocket cost medical care to children throughout Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. The Care Mobile will be at Barrett October 27th (9:30 am - 2:00 pm) and Steel Valley High School - November 17th (9:30 am - 2:00 pm).

What a start to the season! Thanks to everyone who came out to support your Ironmen as they defeated Sto-Rox 35-0 to open the 2023 football season and begin their defense of the WPIAL Class 2A title. FALL High School Student Sports Pass are $5.00 per pass. Student passes are for High School students ONLY. Pass will get you admission to all home fall sporting events. Pass must be presented at event for admission. Passes can only be purchased in the Athletic Office Monday - Friday from 7:15 am – 2:45 pm.

The to-do list for any educator seems almost endless in August. Preparing for the start of the school year is a hectic, exhausting practice. It’s even more crazed when you’re joining a new school district in a new role – the computer system is different, the hallways are a labyrinth, and there is a never-ending stream of information to digest. Kimberly Winters’ to-do list is long, but it can’t match her excitement to be the new principal at Barrett Elementary.

The Steel Valley Board of School Directors is accepting letters of interest for a vacancy on the board. District residents interested in serving on the school board are invited to submit letters of interest. Letters of interest must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023.

John Sabo developed an appreciation for work ethic, perseverance, leadership, and the power of mentorships while at Steel Valley. Now the Vice President of Business Development for Deep Well Services, Sabo is taking what he learned to help connect recent Steel Valley graduates with career opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch during school will receive extra food benefits called Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) benefits to cover the summer of 2023. Families with students who were enrolled at Steel Valley through the end of the school year will receive a letter informing them about the program and their eligibility.

Senior Parking Spot Painting

Steel Valley School District is allowing senior students to paint their own parking spot again this school year. This activity is aimed at improving school pride and camaraderie. Senior students can "own" a piece of the school during their senior year. SENIOR CLASS FUNDRAISER: Purchasing a Reserved Senior Parking Space allows the purchasing senior student to personalize their assigned space by painting it. Funds raised will be used for senior activities. Reserving and painting parking spaces is a privilege rather than a right.

Participants at the July community meeting discuss district updates

Mark your calendars - Funder Under the Bridge 2023 has a date. The sixth edition of the annual Steel Valley School District fundraiser and community event is penciled in for Sunday, October 15. Planning for the event was a primary topic at the district's July community meeting, which was held on July 12 at the high school library.

The Act 34 Hearing at Steel Valley

The Steel Valley School District board of school directors, school administrators, and representatives from DRAW Collective publicly presented plans for a new elementary school and listened to feedback from citizens as part of an Act 34 hearing on Thursday, June 22.
