STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
What is the Student Assistance Program (SAP)?
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a team of faculty and staff that collaborate with students and families and work together to assist students with issues that hinder their well-being and success in school. These issues can be academic, behavioral, attendance, or social/emotional in nature. Parents and/or guardians, students, and staff, can make a referral if they are concerned about a student. The team receives the referral, talks to the family, assigns a case manager and then collects information about the student and the potential issue. The team then works with the student and family to break down the obstacles that the child is facing. Through the SAP process, the Steel Valley School District has many services available to assist students in breaking down these barriers. From school based mental health counseling to non-therapeutic support services, we will work with you to support the student. If you would like to learn more, or start a referral for a specific student, please reach out to your school’s guidance counselor to get started.
