Construction is officially underway on Steel Valley Elementary. The state-of-the-art building will unite Steel Valley School District’s kindergarten through fifth grade students under one roof for the first time in district history. The district celebrated the official start of construction on the project with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, September 26. Current elementary students from Barrett and Park joined administrators and school board members to dig their shovels into the ground and kick off the project.

The Steel Valley School District is thrilled to announce the construction of a new elementary school that will bring the district’s elementary students together for the first time and unite the entire K-12 student body on one campus. The Steel Valley School District Board of Directors formally approved the motion to award the general construction contract to Pittsburgh-based Rycon Construction, Inc. during its board meeting on Thursday, June 20. Construction is tentatively expected to be completed in August 2026 in time for the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.
The Steel Valley School District is partnering with DRAW Collective on plans for a new elementary school. On January 25, 2024 and again on March 21, 2024, DRAW Collective presented updates on the current plan for the new elementary school to Steel Valley administrators, school board members, and the general public as part of the district’s legislative board meetings. The summary includes a timeline of the project, including what comes next.
On Wednesday afternoon, representatives from DRAW Collective met with K-5 educators for a detailed review of plans for the proposed new elementary school. This was an opportunity for the educators who would be calling the new school their home to learn more about the proposed design and the building's features, ask questions, and provide overall feedback.
The Steel Valley School District board of school directors, school administrators, and representatives from DRAW Collective publicly presented plans for a new elementary school and listened to feedback from citizens as part of an Act 34 hearing on Thursday, June 22.
The Steel Valley School District will host a public hearing in the high school auditorium on Thursday, June 22 to review all relevant matters pertaining to the construction of a new elementary school.
