The Steel Valley School District formally opened Steel Valley Elementary School on the William V. Campbell Campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 21, 2026. In front of nearly 200 students, families, and community members, the district celebrated the opening of the school in advance of the 2026-27 school year.

Elementary students in the Steel Valley School District will be able to hop on the bus to get to the brand new Steel Valley Elementary this fall.
The Steel Valley School District Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Brian Plichta as the Acting Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2026. The board has also appointed Ms. Cara McKenna as principal of Steel Valley Middle School.
On Thursday, June 25, the Steel Valley School District conducted public hearings related to the closure of Barrett Elementary and Park Elementary. These hearings are required by Section 780 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code. The presentations from those hearings are now available to view.
Our construction team continues to make excellent progress on Steel Valley Elementary! The learning at Steel Valley Elementary won't just take place in the classroom. Along with our flexible learning spaces, library and media center, gymnasium/auditorium, and outdoor learning spaces, the new school will also feature a playground for students to use.

Mrs. Winters and Ms. McKenna hosted the second Steel Valley Elementary Transition Night meeting on Tuesday, February 10. These events are designed to help students and families navigate the move from Barrett and Park to the new elementary school in August. Following each meeting, Mrs. Winters will share a recap of the important information that was discussed. The next meeting is scheduled for March 24 in the high school auditorium.
We are excited about the continued progress on our new Steel Valley Elementary School. Our construction team took the time to capture some footage as work continued on the new building, including the installation of drywall and the shaping of the interior of this transformational building as of November 2025.
Under the direction of new program director Ms. Nicole States, students in the K-8 gifted program are focused on collaboration, creativity, and experiencing new challenges, including an opportunity to serve as mentors to life skills students and compete in a national tournament.
