MORE INFORMATION: The Steel Valley School District is embarking on a new chapter as it constructs an elementary school that will bring its kindergarten through fifth grade students together under one roof. It is the first time in district history that all elementary students will learn together, providing each student with an enriching and equitable educational experience.

The district spent nearly three years collaborating with Pittsburgh architecture firm DRAW Collective on the designs of a spacious, modern school equipped with the resources necessary to deliver versatile, collaborative, and quality instruction to students. The board of directors formally approved awarding Pittsburgh-based Rycon Construction, Inc. the general construction contract in June.

The new school is being built on the site of the former Franklin Primary School at 220 East Oliver Road in Munhall, which most recently served as the home for district administration offices. The site is adjacent to the Steel Valley Middle School/High School campus, and the two facilities will be connected via roadways, parking lots, and landscaping to provide for an interconnected campus that enhances the safety and security of students and staff.

Site preparation began in August with the initial transformation of terrain and the dismantling of Franklin Primary. The project is tentatively expected to be completed in August 2026 in time for the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.

Parking for Thursday's ceremony is at Steel Valley High School. Guests are encouraged to park there and walk the short distance to the construction site on the former Griffin Field and Franklin Primary.
