The Steel Valley School District Board of Directors has formally appointed Bryan M. Macuga as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Macuga had been serving as the district’s Interim Superintendent since being appointed to that role on October 26, 2023.

The Board of Directors selected Mr. Macuga as Superintendent of Schools following an exhaustive search conducted with the guidance of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. The search included community feedback and extensive interviews with candidates. The board officially voted to approve Mr. Macuga’s hiring during its voting meeting on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

“What set Bryan apart was his unwavering passion for our district,” board president Mr. James E. Bulger said. “We are confident that Bryan’s leadership, coupled with his enthusiasm for Steel Valley, will propel us forward into an era of unprecedented collaboration, innovation, and progress. His commitment to our shared vision will undoubtedly inspire us all to achieve greater heights.”

Since arriving at Steel Valley in 2005, Mr. Macuga has held multiple roles in the district. He began as a science teacher in the middle school before becoming a building administrator. He has served as a principal at Park Elementary, Steel Valley Middle School, and Steel Valley High School, as well as secondary campus principal. For the last three years, he has been serving as the district’s assistant superintendent, with a focus on enhancing the district’s academic profile and curriculum.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to be selected as the next Superintendent of the Steel Valley School District,” Mr. Macuga said. “Beginning at Steel Valley in 2005 as a sixth grade science teacher and progressing through the district in various roles, I’m extremely confident that these experiences and opportunities have prepared me to enter into the role as Superintendent of Schools.”

Prior to Steel Valley, Mr. Macuga spent two years in his hometown district at West Jefferson Hills. A graduate of Saint Vincent College, Mr. Macuga earned his master's degree, principal certification and superintendent letter of eligibility at California University of Pennsylvania (now PennWest California).

“Throughout my time at Steel Valley, I have developed strong relationships with stakeholders across the district. As superintendent I will continue to foster these relationships to continue moving the district forward,” Mr. Macuga said. “I truly consider this position to be an honor and responsibility I do not take lightly.”
