Steel Valley SADD is in contest to receive the most Pledges for NJM's Just Drive Campaign. Two years in a row, Steel Valley was the school to receive the most pledges in the State. Let's make it a third! The school with the most pledges will be awarded.
Casey Walker’s experience as a student growing up in the Baldwin School District helped shape her career and impacted her journey to Steel Valley. She joined Steel Valley this school year as a district-wide counselor, with a focus on the middle school and high school. She shared more about her background and detailed some of the programs and initiatives she is implementing for students.
Barrett Elementary students put everyone in the holiday spirit with its special winter concert on Wednesday, December 14. Each grade level performed for the parents, family members, friends and community members who packed the gymnasium for the show.

The Barrett Elementary I2 Days of Giving project is back and going strong! Please join us as we continue to collect donations for causes in and around our Steel Valley Community. Donations can be dropped off at Barrett or the High School now through November 22nd!
The Steel Valley Student Council hosted an information table during lunch periods for Children's Grief Awareness Day on November 17. Students and staff were encouraged to place a butterfly in the Memory Garden that the Art Club did such a wonderful job creating.
When his hearing loss support teacher told him that there was a Barrett student who also had hearing loss, Tim Eads decided to pitch in. A Steel Valley Cyber Academy student and volunteer firefighter, Tim used Barrett's fire prevention assembly to connect with Derrick Arrington and lend a hand.
Congratulations! Your District has a Nominee for the MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School. The MP AOW awards are decided by fan vote. Voting is live and will conclude at Noon on Monday, Nov. 21. You may vote as often as you like.
The Barrett Elementary Special Events Committee is ready to launch its annual districtwide T-Shirt sale to help support the production of the Black History Month Living Interactive Museum at Barrett Elementary in February.
Ms. Caralee McGraw has taught middle school math, high school art, and elementary art. As Steel Valley's new elementary art teacher, her focus is on building their basic skills and techniques, introducing them to different materials and mediums, and boosting their confidence in the art world.

Barrett Elementary's 12 Days of Giving Project has become an annual November tradition. This year's round of giving will kick off on Monday, Nov. 7 and run through Tuesday, Nov. 22.
If you participated in the Vision to Learn program during the 2021-2022 school year, you are not eligible to participate in the program this school year. However, if you did not receive your glasses from last school year or have lost or broken your glasses, please contact Vision to Learn at (248) 716-4393 or fill out the form at www.visiontolearn.org/glasses to receive a new pair of glasses.

MS and HS Student Councils are joining The Caring Place in selling t-shirts for Children's Grief Awareness Day on November 17th. The cost of the t-shirt will be $10. A portion of the t-shirt sales is given back to the programs and supports of The Caring Place. We have added additional funds to the sale to give back to the Tears Foundation in honor of a staff member and her family who lost their son this past summer. This is another local organization that provides grief support services to families who have lost a child. We would like sales finalized by October 6th to assure on-time arrival. Barrett Elementary School received their 9th recognition badge for implementation of Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) in the school. PBIS is the framework used for teaching expectations, student rewards and incentives, tracking student behaviors, and family involvement in the school. Barrett emphasizes the Barrett BEARS expectations daily both inside and outside of the classroom.

Currently, our Caring Closet is in need of the following items: *little packs of kleenex, *chapsticks/lip balm, *mens deodorant, *small bottles of lotion they can keep in backpack or bag, *random sizes of mens boxer briefs for emergencies, *plastic water bottles for students who simply cannot afford to buy one or own one of their own to keep in school and use the fountains. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be given directly to Nurse Thomas OR to Ryan Dunmire (Caring Closet Volunteers).

It’s been a whirlwind start for Steel Valley’s new Director of Pupil Services. Ms. Renee Kozusko started her new job shortly before the school year began and she has devoted these first few weeks to immersing herself in the ins and outs of her role. It’s been hectic, but it’s exactly where Ms. Kozusko wants to be.
