Barrett Elementary students may begin arriving at 7:30 a.m. and should use the gymnasium entrance on Amity Street. Students who arrive at 7:30 will be sent to the cafeteria for their free breakfast. Students arriving up to 7:45 a.m. will wait in the gymnasium before heading to the cafeteria for their free breakfast. Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. should use the 12th Street entrance. Any student who arrives after 8:10 a.m. will be marked tardy.

Dismissal begins at 2:45 p.m. Please note that 12th Avenue is closed to vehicle traffic during dismissal. Students who are enrolled in MUSA will meet MUSA staff at the basement level. Students in after school clubs will report to the gym. Students who walk home will be dismissed from the front doors, with each grade escorted by a staff member. Students who walk will be directed toward Ann Street, where there will be a crossing guard. Students who live on the west side of town who are walking home will be guided to the Amity Street crossing guard.

Parents who are picking up their children in their vehicles will be asked to line up on Glenn Street, which will be one-way for cars during dismissal. Parents should wait between the orange cones and the gravel parking lot on Glenn Street. The children will raise their hand when they see their grown up. The assigned staff member will release them to their grown up.

The foundation of education in the Steel Valley School District begins with our elementary schools. Barrett and Park Elementary each serve Steel Valley students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Our engaging curriculum ensures that students develop the knowledge and habits that will help them grasp complex concepts as they get older.

Along with learning the fundamentals of reading, writing, math and science, Barrett elementary students explore their creativity and the world around them through hands-on experiences. Our elementary art classes encourage students to discover their creative eye; Music classes teach basic instrumentation and vocal technique, with two student performances every year; The Black History Month Living Interactive
Museum guides students and families through exhibits featuring culturally significant artifacts and historical information, student and alumni performances, and living figures played by Steel Valley High School students and alumni.

Like every school in the district, Barrett Elementary offers a wide range of supports and resources in order to meet all of the needs of our students. We are continously working to ensure
every student has the resources they need in order to thrive.
