Today SVMS celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and Stand Together promoted the powerful message of 1:4 teens suffering from a Mental Illness through a series of activities during lunch as well as every 4th locker being decorated with starbursts and skittles this morning.

History came to life for Steel Valley students and community members as they toured the 2023 edition of the Barrett Elementary Black History Month Interactive Living Museum on Thursday, February 23.
Students from the Middle School Expect Respect Program and volunteers from The Pittsburgh Study stopped by kindergarten, first grade and second grade classrooms today at Barrett. The older students read a selection of books with the elementary classes and then helped them do some crafts.
Barrett PTO is hosting a Bingo night for grown ups on Friday, February 24th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Barrett Elementary School gymnasium. Tickets are on sale in the Barrett school office or may be purchased at the door for $10. The community is invited. Grab your BINGO playing friends and join us!
The High School Student Council celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Week during the week of February 13. Thanks to Ms. Wright and the Art Club, a tree was created on which we hung acts of kindness that had been observed by staff and students during the week. We also posted Kindness Quotes throughout the school and on the TVs in the lobby and cafeteria to remind everyone how important the act of kindness is.
The High School Student Council would like to thank everyone who donated to their collection for Beverly’s Birthdays. Beverly’s Birthdays is an organization that provides birthday cheer for children experiencing homelessness and families in need. Their Beverly’s Babies division provides critical baby care items and life sustaining resources for expecting parents and new babies.

Barrett Elementary students as well as a group of Steel Valley Middle School and Steel Valley High School students attended the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust School Day Matinee performance of "Step Afrika!" The touring professional company performs shows dedicated to the art of stepping - which they describe as a "polyrhythmic, percussive dance form that uses the body as an instrument."
The Caring Closet mission is to serve students who are financially struggling and in need of a little extra help with obtaining daily necessities; those students who are striving to do well academically, but need an extra boost to ensure their focus can be on their education and not on meeting their basic needs. If you have donations of school supplies, hygiene products, or "like new" or "gently used" school uniform clothing appropriate for middle school or high school aged students, please contact us. Steel Valley SADD is in contest to receive the most Pledges for NJM's Just Drive Campaign. Two years in a row, Steel Valley was the school to receive the most pledges in the State. Let's make it a third! The school with the most pledges will be awarded.
Casey Walker’s experience as a student growing up in the Baldwin School District helped shape her career and impacted her journey to Steel Valley. She joined Steel Valley this school year as a district-wide counselor, with a focus on the middle school and high school. She shared more about her background and detailed some of the programs and initiatives she is implementing for students.
Barrett Elementary students put everyone in the holiday spirit with its special winter concert on Wednesday, December 14. Each grade level performed for the parents, family members, friends and community members who packed the gymnasium for the show.

The Barrett Elementary I2 Days of Giving project is back and going strong! Please join us as we continue to collect donations for causes in and around our Steel Valley Community. Donations can be dropped off at Barrett or the High School now through November 22nd!
The Steel Valley Student Council hosted an information table during lunch periods for Children's Grief Awareness Day on November 17. Students and staff were encouraged to place a butterfly in the Memory Garden that the Art Club did such a wonderful job creating.
When his hearing loss support teacher told him that there was a Barrett student who also had hearing loss, Tim Eads decided to pitch in. A Steel Valley Cyber Academy student and volunteer firefighter, Tim used Barrett's fire prevention assembly to connect with Derrick Arrington and lend a hand.
Congratulations! Your District has a Nominee for the MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School. The MP AOW awards are decided by fan vote. Voting is live and will conclude at Noon on Monday, Nov. 21. You may vote as often as you like.
The Barrett Elementary Special Events Committee is ready to launch its annual districtwide T-Shirt sale to help support the production of the Black History Month Living Interactive Museum at Barrett Elementary in February.
