Park students and staff held their annual Halloween Parade on Thursday, Oct. 31. Cartoon characters, superheroes, royalty, ghouls, and more went up and down Main Street outside of Park Elementary to the delight of onlookers.
Ghouls, goblins, superheroes, princesses, and cartoon characters took over the street in front of Barrett Elementary on Wednesday, Oct. 30 as part of our annual Trunk or Treat event.
It truly felt like fall during our PBIS Fall Fest on Thursday, Oct. 30! Each grade had an opportunity to enjoy some time outside in the sunny but crisp fresh air to go through some activities set up by our PBIS team.

Our Pre-K program is off and running this year, and we're now open for enrollment for the 2025-26 school year! If your child will be 4-years-old by Sept. 1, 2025, they are eligible for Pre-K at Steel Valley!
Homecoming and Spirit Week festivities reached a fever pitch on Friday, October 11 as Steel Valley capped the annual celebration with its fall sports pep rally for high school and middle school students, and then crowned a new Homecoming Queen at halftime of a dominant win over OLSH that evening. Congratulations to Kylie Salopek, who was crowned the 2024 Steel Valley Homecoming Queen.

Wednesday night was the annual Powder Puff Game as part of Spirit Week and Homecoming. The junior girls came ready to upset the senior girls and the game stayed close for a while, but the Class of 2025 slowly pulled away and ended up winning comfortably. Congratulations to the seniors for the win and the juniors for a hard fought game!
A piece of Steel Valley and Mon Valley history has been restored and is now the centerpiece of a new outdoor space for Steel Valley High School students.
Construction is officially underway on Steel Valley Elementary. The state-of-the-art building will unite Steel Valley School District’s kindergarten through fifth grade students under one roof for the first time in district history. The district celebrated the official start of construction on the project with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, September 26. Current elementary students from Barrett and Park joined administrators and school board members to dig their shovels into the ground and kick off the project.
A group of Steel Valley High School students visited Woodland Hills High School this morning for a college and career fair that featured almost 50 universities, trade schools, armed services, and employers. The event was made possible thanks in part to DoD STEM, which offers the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program.
The Steel Valley School District is passionate about developing the next generation of leaders and proud of its long, productive relationships with local businesses and community organizations. Those core beliefs united on Wednesday, September 25 as 25 Steel Valley High School students began their participation in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, a national high school leadership program empowering students to make an Impact Through Action.
The Steel Valley School District is excited to host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, September 26 to celebrate the official start of construction on the new Steel Valley Elementary School. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.

Steel Valley Middle School and High School students will have an early dismissal on Friday, September 6 due to on-going repairs to the chiller on the secondary campus.
As a collaboration between UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, Inc., the Care Mobile offers no out-of-pocket cost medical care to children throughout Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. The Care Mobile will be at Steel Valley High School
The High School Student Council will be hosting the first Blood Drive of the 24-25 school year on Thursday, September 26 in the high school gym. Students must be at least 16 years old to donate. Community and staff members are also welcome and encouraged to donate.
A project that has been in the works for close to a decade is about to break ground outside of Barrett Elementary. Thanks to a partnership between the Homestead Borough, Alcosan, and Rep. Summer Lee, contractors and engineers will begin work on transforming the current gravel parking lot and playground on East 12th Avenue across from Barrett into a new greenspace that will address stormwater runoff and create an outdoor learning space for Barrett students.
Due to mechanical issues with the HVAC system on the secondary campus, Steel Valley High School and Middle School students will have an abbreviated schedule for Thursday, August 29 and will have remote learning for Friday, August 30. High School Student Sports Pass for 2024-25 Season on sale for High School Students only. • Passes can only be purchased in the Athletic Office Monday - Friday from 7:15 am – 2:45 pm.
When high school students report for the first day on Friday, they'll have a brand new cafeteria serving line with an array of food choices for lunch.
