Dragons Den
The long-awaited Senior Day at the Dragon’s Den was today. The seniors really captured the spirit of teamwork as they gave each other suggestions and continual encouragement as they took their turns conquering the ropes challenge courses. “This group of seniors is very impressive and they are going to be missed when they graduate”, said Athletic Director, Shawn McCallister, who helped chaperone.
Student Council Sponsor, Beth McCallister stated, “I am very thankful for the teachers, para professionals, and other staff members who helped chaperone.” Chaperones during this week included Mr. Shoemaker, Mrs. Lavelle, Mr. McCallister, Ms. Dolton, Ms. Lyons, Ms. Palm, and Ms. Devine. We even had a visit from Interim Superintendent, Mr. Macuga. McCallister also said, “The staff members at the Dragon’s Den were excellent. They were patient, encouraging, very knowledgeable, and very interactive with our students.” It was a great experience for everyone involved.
Senior Snow Tubing
The Steel Valley Senior Class of 2024 made some memories in the snow on January 25. Mother Nature thought about not cooperating but ended up giving the seniors a really nice day for snow tubing. With the exception of some fog which made it tough to see the top of the slopes, the 50 degree temperature made it a great day for tubing at Boyce Park. The tubing park opened for private snow tubing for the seniors which meant they had the opportunity to use the slopes repeatedly without any waiting in line. Some seniors never took a break, while others went inside the lodge to warm up, socialize with each other, and have some snacks.
Listen to the laughter and excitement!

Mr. Richard Bazzy Astounded
11 Steel Valley Seniors
Steel Valley High School alumnus and the President and Owner of Shultz Ford, Mr. Richard Bazzy astounded 11 Steel Valley seniors by awarding each a $5,000 scholarship in 2021. What could he do for an encore? At last evening's Senior Honor Awards Ceremony, he amazed 18 Class of 2022 students by presenting each with a $5,000 scholarship. Mr. Bazzy is a truly caring individual who has been very generous to our students over the past two years by donating $145,000 to offset their educational costs. We are extremely proud to call him a friend of Steel Valley. "Yee Haw Mr. Bazzy; we appreciate you," said Shawn McCallister, Steel Valley Athletic/Activities Director.

Senior Snow Tubing Trip
With some extra precautions in place and cooperation from Mother Nature providing a beautiful, sunny day, the Steel Valley Senior Class got a chance to enjoy some time together making memories on the snow tubing slopes of Hidden Valley on February 24. The senior class sponsor, Mrs. Beth McCallister was unsure if this annual senior day trip would be able to take place this year because of COVID19 restrictions. “Hidden Valley had not been holding weekday outings this season but because we have such a good relationship with them, they thankfully agreed to open up for our students for a private event. Our seniors were very cooperative when we asked them to sit only one per seat on the bus ride and to keep their masks on. It was so nice to hear them laughing and enjoying themselves!”, said McCallister. “I truly appreciate the administration for approving our request to take the seniors on this trip and for the chaperones, Ms. Dolton, Ms. Besh, and Mr. McCallister, who help out tremendously each year”.
