Steel Valley National Honor Society

The Steel Valley High School National Honor Society Apollo Chapter inducted 22 new members into the organization during a ceremony held inside the auditorium on Friday, April 26.

Meet the 2024 Steel Valley High School Prom Court! This year is the first time that Steel Valley students have had a prom court. The court consists of senior students, who were elected by their sophomore, junior, and senior classmates on Friday, April 12.

Caring Closet

The Steel Valley Concert Choir at its senior showcase

Thursday night was the Steel Valley Concert Choir's Senior Showcase, where the concert choir celebrated its seniors with a selection of special songs. Along with full choir performances, the showcase featured solo performances from multiple seniors, each of whom selected songs with a special place in their heart.

In continued efforts to stress the importance of being in school and on time, the Steel Valley School District will now provide same-day contact to the primary parent or guardian through three methods: telephone call, text message, and email. The absentee and tardy messaging system will be effective starting April 2, 2024.

The Steel Valley High School Drama Club is excited to present its production of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda: The Musical” as its spring production. You have two more opportunities to catch the show: Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or via https://svdrama.seatyourself.biz.

A group of Steel Valley High School students took part in the fifth annual Woodland Hills Student Summit on March 8. The summit features student-led discussions on hand-picked topics like mental health, racial and social equity, gun violence, and much more. This year’s Student Summit featured 18 school districts from five counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania and was hosted by Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Paying it forward is more than just an idea; it’s the inspiration for students in Jodi Geyer’s English classes who honored Black History Month by serving others. The students of room 217 donated more than 70 hours of time and service by baking, cooking, recycling, helping others, performing acts of service, and promoting love and kindness. The students helped more than 100 people throughout the month of February.

Congratulations to senior A.J. Karstetter, who will continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg. A.J. made it official on Tuesday morning during a signing ceremony in the high school auditorium with his family, friends, and teammates in attendance.

The Steel Valley School District is excited to offer Pre-Kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year. Families must reside in the Steel Valley School District (Homestead, Munhall, and West Homestead) and the student must be 4-years-old on or before September 1, 2024.

Gannon and Qua'ron check out Edge AI

Steel Valley High School students Qua'ron Pierce and Gannon Haddad are getting hands-on engineering experience several days per week thanks to a new opportunity with Edge AI Solutions in Homestead. The pilot program is the start of what Edge AI CEO Brandon Ingram hopes is a lasting partnership between the company and the school.

Steel Valley has a proud tradition of preparing student-athletes to pursue their sport at the collegiate level, and that tradition lives on with the Class of 2024. Four Ironmen football players put pen to paper this week and officially signed their National Letters of Intent to accept scholarships and play college football.

The Steel Valley School District is partnering with DRAW Collective on plans for a new elementary school. On January 25, 2024 and again on March 21, 2024, DRAW Collective presented updates on the current plan for the new elementary school to Steel Valley administrators, school board members, and the general public as part of the district’s legislative board meetings. For those who were unable to attend the meeting, the slides from DRAW Collective’s presentations are available to view along with an overall summary of their plan. The summary includes a timeline of the project, including what comes next.

On Wednesday afternoon, representatives from DRAW Collective met with K-5 educators for a detailed review of plans for the proposed new elementary school. This was an opportunity for the educators who would be calling the new school their home to learn more about the proposed design and the building's features, ask questions, and provide overall feedback.
