Steel Valley School District Superintendent Mr. Bryan M. Macuga sent home the following letter on September 12, 2024, informing families of a routine safety sweep conducted at the high school and middle school.
Dear Steel Valley School District Families:
As part of the Steel Valley School District's mission to continue to provide the safest
possible educational environment for our students and staff, Steel Valley High School
and Steel Valley Middle School administrators partnered with local law enforcement
from the Homestead, West Homestead and Munhall Police Departments to conduct a
random search of the secondary campus on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
The Steel Valley School District has conducted similar random searches in the past. This
procedure is a valuable tool to ensure that our staff and scholars can enjoy a safe,
productive environment in which to teach and learn. Law enforcement officers used
trained K-9 units to help conduct the search.
District administration would like to express its gratitude to the law enforcement officers
with the Homestead Police Department, West Homestead Police Department, and the
Munhall Police Department for conducting the search, and for their collaboration with
Steel Valley School District Chief of Police Darrel Parker and School Resource Officer
Dan Boehme on this exercise.
The safety of our students and staff is always of utmost importance to our community.
District and building administrators will continue to collaborate with Chief Parker, our
school resource officers, our security team, and local law enforcement to provide the
safest possible educational environment for our students, staff, and school community.
Sincerely,
Bryan M. Macuga
Superintendent
