Steel Valley High School’s Apollo Chapter of the National Honor Society held its 54th annual induction ceremony earlier this month on May 9th. The National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.
More than just honor roll, NHS serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. The formal ceremony, which includes a special candle lighting by its members, was held in the auditorium and 22 new members were inducted this year.
During the ceremony, a special student and teacher are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. This year Abigail Fitzgerald and Michelle Maddigan were selected for their outstanding accomplishments. The members of the National Honor Society participate in a peer-tutoring program in the high school and help other organizations with their time and talents.
Current members of the Steel Valley National Honor Society include Elbachir Benboujema, Logan Brady, Christopher Burgman, Darwin Burns, William Coyne, Abigail Curran, Abigail Fitzgerald, Madelyn Holby, Kamryn Hutching, Piper Olack, Ryan Packer, Ashanti Purifoy-Wilson, Layla Rager, Darrion Rozzo, Ava Ryan, Sophia Sabo, Kylie Salopek, Tori Stabryla, and Elaina Tichon.
