Tuesday evening was the annual Senior Showcase Concert for the Steel Valley High School Concert Choir. The program featured a number of opportunities for seniors - as well as some underclassmen - to perform some of their favorite songs and enjoy one of their final moments in the spotlight.
The show began with a full choir performance of "Waving Through a Window" from the musical Dear Evan Hanson. The selection featured solo performances from Peter Bos, Rebekah Kleiber, and Ryan Packer.
Kleiber teamed up with Shaterra Meadows to perform a rendition of the Motown classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" before senior Layla Rager took the stage to perform a version of Rihanna's hit "Stay." The full choir returned to get the audience to sing and clap along to Bill Withers' "Lovely Day," which was followed by Matthew Fulmore's performance of Steve Lacy's viral hit "Dark Red."
Senior Will Coyne performed a solo rendition of The Avett Brothers' "Murder in the City." He was then joined by fellow senior Ryan Packer for a spin on Withers' classic "Just the Two of Us," complete with a short dance number.
Packer performed Green Day's hit ballad "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) before members of the choir joined him for a special performance of the band's "Holiday." Packer arranged an acappella version of the song, which featured solo performances by him and by Coyne.
The choir concluded the show with "Big Time" from the Disney film musical Better Nate Than Never.
The senior showcase is the first of several spring performances from the Steel Valley Music Department. The high school concert band and choir will perform their spring show on May 6, while the middle school will have its night on May 15.
