Dear Steel Valley Parents and Families:

All of us within the Steel Valley School District were truly looking forward to starting the school year this morning. Unfortunately, the storms that moved through our region last night knocked out power to our High School/Middle School. The district’s phone and internet services run through the High School, and without power in that building the entire district had no phone or internet service.

We had hoped that a two-hour delay would provide enough time for services to be restored, but unfortunately that was not the case. Lacking both phone and internet service created a potentially unsafe environment for our elementary schools if an emergency situation had arisen, and that is why school was cancelled across the entire district. We sincerely apologize for the disruption that the cancellation caused, as well as for any confusion as we navigated the issue this morning.

All Steel Valley students will return to school Monday morning. We will have a full day of instruction for all students in each building. We remain excited for what promises to be a fantastic school year, and we are eager to see everyone Monday morning.

Sincerely,

Edward Wehrer

Superintendent
