Steel Valley senior Cruce Brookins has been selected to be part of the Pennsylvania roster for the 2023 Big 33 Football Classic. The Big 33 is one of the largest and most celebrated high school all-star football games in the country. For the last decade, the game has pitted Pennsylvania all-stars against Maryland all-stars. The Big 33 has a roster of famous alumni, and every Super Bowl ever played - including the most recent one between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles - has featured at least one Big 33 alum.

Brookins will join 37 other graduating seniors on the initial Pennsylvania roster, 12 of whom hail from the WPIAL.

A star quarterback and defensive back at Steel Valley, Brookins has signed to play college football at the University of Pittsburgh. Brookins was named first-team all-conference, the conference Most Valuable Player, and selected to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab 22. He ran for 1,663 yards, threw for 785 yards, intercepted 7 passes, and accounted for 35 total touchdowns. Steel Valley won the WPIAL Class 2A championship and reached the state semifinals. Over the final two years of his high school career, Brookins and the Ironmen posted a 23-2 record.

This year's Big 33 Football Classic will be played on Sunday, May 28 at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg.
