7th to 12th Grade Concert Band, High School Concert Choir Perform Spring Show

The Steel Valley Music Department kicked off the final slate of concerts this school year with performances by the 7th to 12th Grade Band and Steel Valley High School Concert Choir on Tuesday, May 6 inside the high school auditorium.

The concert band opened the show with the seventh and eighth graders playing a pair of pieces - "Journey Into the Stars" and "El Pato Loco (The Crazy Duck)." Band director Ms. Malia Mueller explained that it was a new opportunity for the seventh and eighth graders to play without the high school students.

The high school musicians came on stage for full band performances of the theme song from the James Bond film "No Time to Die" and the piece "Dark Ride." The seventh and eighth graders then exited the stage to allow the high school students to close out their portion of the concert with medleys from "Wicked" and "La La Land" before concluding the show with "Fate of the Gods."

After a brief intermission, the Concert Choir began its time on stage with "Sisi Ni Moja (We Are One). A pair of student percussionists joined the choir for "Apple Tree," which was followed by a rendition of "Nine Hundred Miles."

Selections from a pair of musicals came next - "I Know It's Today" from the musical version of "Shrek," and "Big Time" from "Better Nate Than Ever."

The choir closed out the evening with performances of "Ad Astra" and "How Can I Keep From Singing," the latter of which included some middle school performers who were invited to join the choir.

The next show will be the fifth and sixth grade concert on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. Park Elementary and Barrett Elementary will also have their school concerts this month.
