Middle School, High School choirs and bands bring festive cheer to Steel Valley

The Steel Valley Music Department presented its Winter Concert featuring middle school and high school students on Friday, December 13. The festive show struck all the right notes as the Steel Valley community prepares for the holiday break.

Under the direction of Mr. Andrew Roberts and accompanied by Mrs. Julie Mack on piano, the Steel Valley High School Concert Choir opened the evening with a quartet of selections that also included eighth grade members. The choir sang "Jazz Waltz of the Sugar Plum Fairy," "Holly Jolly Christmas," "Once Upon a December," and "There Has to Be a Song."

The eighth graders left the stage and the high school students finished off the choir's performance with a rendition of Leonard Cohen's famous "Hallelujah" and Keith Hampton's "Celebrate!"

The Steel Valley Middle School Forge Voices took the stage next to perform four songs - "It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas," "Three Little Birds," "Stand Up," and the always popular "Jingle Bell Rock."

After a brief intermission, Ms. Malia Mueller and the fifth and sixth grade band took the stage. The students performed three songs familiar to fans of holiday music - "Jingle Bells," "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas," and "Bell Carol," which is a variation of "Carol of the Bells." The sixth graders stayed on stage for an additional solo performance of "Inception," and then were joined by the high school band for "Santa the Barbarian."

The high school band closed out the show with three selections - the ever popular "Sleigh Ride," the classic "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and "A Rollicking Hanukkah," which is a blend of familiar Hanukkah songs.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the students and the Steel Valley Music Department Friday evening, and who support these young musicians every day throughout the year.

Happy Holidays from Steel Valley!
