Steel Valley Instrumental Spring Concert Takes Audience On A Journey Through Time

Tuesday night was the Steel Valley Instrumental Spring Concert, which featured the theme of "Ancient Times: A Journey Through Time."

The fifth and sixth grade concert band kicked things off with a performance of "Castles and Dragons," featuring a solo from Atreyu Convard. The fifth and sixth graders also performed a rendition of "The Dragon Lord."

The seventh through 12th grade concert band joined the fifth and sixth graders for a joint performance of Ralph Ford's "Dark Adventure," which featured a solo from Alexandria Wehrer. Band director Mr. Michael Sisley noted that several older students have worked with the fifth and sixth graders throughout the year, serving as mentors. The seventh through 12th grade concert band then performed a trio of pieces, all of which included solo performances.

"Apollo: Myth and Legend" featured solos from Lucas Barefoot, Atreyu Convard, Ashley Bulger and Andy Diep. Selections from "The Lion King" included a solo from Rachel Zajicek, and "Fate of the Gods" featured solos from Ashley Bulger, Rachel Zajicek, Nathan Heddleston, Shalawn Parker, Peter Bos, Josie Strom, Andy Diep and Chase Morrison.

The spring concert was the final performance for four Steel Valley seniors: Jasmin Harris (flute), Shalawn Parker (alto saxophone), Rachel Zajicek (alto saxophone) and Finnley Weis (percussion).
