Fractions in Third Grade

Fractions in Third Grade

Third graders have been spending time experimenting with fractions in Mrs. Pugh's math class.  Students used clay, water, one meter of yarn, and various sizes of paper to demonstrate unit fractions.  Students were able to identify equal parts, compare fractions, and find equivalent fractions.

Fractions on a number line came alive in class as well.  Students worked together to take a blank line of masking tape and some post-it notes to build models of halves, fourths, sixths, and eighths.  Nice work third graders!
