Virtual Visit

Virtual Visit

Last Friday Mrs. Ruffing's second grade class had a special virtual visit from cartoonist and author Joe Wos. His work can be seen in WQED's Cartoon Academy, in books, murals, and he is even the artist that draws the tuna for Starkist tuna cans!

Students learned how they can use shapes, letters, numbers and most importantly their imaginations to illustrate stories. They also learned how to give characters emotions and the importance of developing settings and characters.

Students asked fantastic questions and everyone learned a lot about his profession and how he became an artist and author. WQED hosts a writers contest every year and Joe encouraged all the kids to participate. The theme this year is "Write Your Future."  Find more information at WQED.org/writemyfuture.
