First Grade Equations of the Day

Students in front of a list of math problems

Everyday in Mrs. Gennari's class, the boys and girls find different ways to make the day of the month. For example, 13 might be 9 +4, or 15 - 2.  As the year goes on, the equations the kids come up with get more and more complex as they begin to incorporate all of the things they learn in math class. In addition to making connections to what is learned in class, students learn from each other when they explain the thinking process that went into their equation.  The explanation is a developmental skill that is an essential part of the Common Core.  Keep up the great work first graders!
