Today we are saying goodbye to Mrs. Mary Jo Sklencar, who is retiring after 16.5 years serving as a paraprofessional in the district. She will be dearly missed by her students and co-workers!
Mrs. Sklencar is a lifelong resident of the Steel Valley Community. She was in the first graduating class of Steel Valley High School in 1972 and went on to earn her Bachelor in Science and Education degree from California University of Pennsylvania. In addition to all of the Park Elementary children she has cared for, Mary Jo has four children and four grandchildren of her own.
During her time at Park Elementary, Mrs. Sklencar could always be counted on to step up. She served on the District's Safety Committee and was also the Director of After School Programming at Park, which is a very big job! Mary Jo went above-and-beyond in less noticeable ways, as well - from getting a new pair of shoes for a child in need to running alongside a student in a Girls on the Run race who was shy or scared - Mrs. Sklencar always went the extra mile.
Mary Jo loves to travel and spend time with her family and friends, and she will be able to do more of that in her retirement. Mary Jo -- thank you for all you have done for the students here! Everyone at Park Elementary wishes you many years of good health and happiness!!!
