Chess Club

Over the next few weeks, we will highlight some of the After School Clubs we offer at Park Elementary, starting with our Chess Club!

 

Mrs. Banyas, a 1st grade teacher, teaches 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders chess basics, along with chess strategy and tactics.  Playing chess has been shown to improve problem solving, pattern recognition, and abstract reasoning.  Studies have even shown that it will increase your IQ!  Don't tell the kids that though -- to them it's just a lot of fun!

 

Students have all come a long way since they started -- a handful are on their way to becoming Grandmasters.  Students enjoy playing one another, and they also have the chance to test their skills against a computer and people from all over the world!
