Students at Park Elementary performed some of their favorite songs from over the years on Thursday, May 7 in the final spring concert at the school. Led by elementary music teacher Ms. Kerry Melega, each grade dove into a selection of songs that might have sounded familiar to family members who have had multiple students attend the school over the years - or even those who might have attended Park themselves!
The fourth grade band opened the show with "Hot Cross Buns," "Au Claire de la Lune," "Lightly Row," and "Merrily We Roll Along." The band threw in a surprise performance of "Let's Go Band!" which is heard every Friday night at Ironmen football games.
Third grade took the stage next to perform "Rock Island Line," "Old Dan Tucker," and a truly spirited and energetic version of the classic "The Rattlin' Bog." Kindergarten students shared their appreciation for spring with "Oh Mr. Sun," "Aiken Drum," and "Each of Us is a Flower."
Fourth grade clearly had the beach and ocean in mind during their performance of "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid." They also performed "I Shall Sing."
Second grade performed "I Love the Mountains," "Shake Them 'Simmons Down," and the ode to lunch "Mac & Cheese." First grade sang "Listen to the Water" and "It's a Sunshine Day" before cheering on the Pirates with a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
Fourth grade had the honor of closing out the final performance with a sweet version of Keane's popular hit "Somewhere Only We Know" before finishing out the show with a reprise of "Under the Sea."
Thank you to everyone who helped put this final performance together, including the Park Special Events Committee, Park PTO, Mr. Matt Janov, and Ms. Melega. We can't wait to begin a new tradition of concerts at the new Steel Valley Elementary next year!
