From the tongue twister "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to celebrating "The Bare Necessities" to taking a trip "Under the Sea," Park Elementary students took the audience on a journey from Broadway to the Silver Screen with their spring concert on Thursday, May 15.
Each song was selected by elementary music teacher Ms. Kerry Melega to celebrate friendship, togetherness, and forms of connections we make in our lives. Every song the students sang also came from a famous musical seen on stage or on film. There were also a few surprises, as the students worked in a few modern popular songs as part of the theme, too.
The fourth grade beginning band showed off their talents first with renditions of "Hot Cross Buns," "Au Claire De La Lune," "Lightly Row," and "Merrily We Roll Along."
Third grade was the first class to sing and their songs included "Do Re Mi" from "The Sound of Music," the extremely challenging "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from "Mary Poppins," and "Dig a Little Deeper" from "The Princess and the Frog."
Kindergarten was up next and performed "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" from "Song of the South," the classic "When You Wish Upon A Star" from "Pinocchio," and "Jitterbug" from the stage version of "The Wizard of Oz." Ms. Melega shared with the audience that "Jitterburg" was cut from the film version, but there is a line or two that references it if you listen closely!
Second grade took the stage and performed "The Candy Man" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," "Happiness" from "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown," and always fun "The Bare Necessities" from "The Jungle Book."
First grade followed up with performances of "I Love to Walk in the Rain" from "Just Around the Corner," "I'm Singin' in the Rain" from the film "Singin' in the Rain," and "Tomorrow" from "Annie."
Fourth grade closed out the show with "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid," "Catch a Falling Star" from "The Princess Diaries," and "Starmakers" from the Kids from "Fame." The last piece was specially arrange by Ms. Melega!
As always, it takes a lot of helping hands to put this show together. Ms. Melega thanked art teacher Ms. Jesse McCreery putting together a lot of the decorations and managing the stage, while Mrs. Marissa Petro, Ms. Kacie Titmus, and Mrs. Denise Cullen also played big roles alongside the Special Events Committee and the entire Park staff.
Enjoy some photos from the concert!
