Recently, 29 Barrett Elementary School families attended a “Paint and Pasta Night” at the school. The event was held in response to a survey asking parents what types of activities interested them.
The Steel Valley Board of School Directors is currently accepting letters of interest from district residents who would like to serve on the School Board. There is currently a vacancy on the Board. Letters of interest must be received by Noon on December 19, 2019. The School Board intends to take action to fill the seat on January 2, 2020.
The first group of students that have obtained zero Behavior Tracking System infractions for the month of November. The Behavior Tracking System is a new initiative instituted to monitor student behaviors. Chick-Fil-A donated a free breakfast sandwich to each of the selected students.
The Middle School and High School students will be released early this Thursday, November 21st due to the conferences The PM session for the Secondary parent teacher conferences has been rescheduled for this Thursday, November 21st from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Dear Steel Valley Community, I am sorry for the disruption of not having school in the Middle School and High School today. We found out yesterday that our emergency fire alarm system had gone down, and I had to make the decisions to postpone secondary parent-teacher conferences and to cancel school today. Those decisions were made because we take the safety of our students, staff and visitors very seriously.
Please help us decorate Gavin’s tree in the SV High School lobby with donations of NEW mittens, hats, gloves, & socks for KIDS & TEENS. We will collect items during the months of November & December. All items will then be donated to children in the community who need them for the winter.
We loved having 246 people attend the Town Hall meeting on October 29, 2019! We have compiled a summary of the ideas that we received, and they are attached for your review. As we move forward, we hope to continue to gain valuable input from all of our stakeholders. When we set the date of the next Town Hall meeting, we will communicate it widely to our community. The Boroughs of Munhall and West Homestead have moved trick-or-treating to Saturday, November 2, from 6 – 8 PM. In the Borough of Homestead, trick-or-treating will remain Thursday, October 31, from 6 - 8 PM.

On Tuesday, October 29th, the Steel Valley School District will host a Town Hall meeting at 6:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. Please join us in an open, honest and respectful community conversation as we discuss public education in the Steel Valley School District.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we have dealt with the issue of bed bugs. We have treated our schools as prescribed by the Allegheny County Health Department and as recommended by our professional exterminator.
We have had two separate incidents in which a suspected bed bug was found, yesterday in a High School classroom and then today in a Middle School student book bag.
Dear Parent or Guardian: We recently found a suspected Bed Bug in the School Building. Bed bugs are a nuisance, but their bites are not known to spread disease.

National Center for Education and the Economy will be coming from Washington. D.C. to spend the day at Park Elementary.

In compliance with the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, as reauthorized in 20 I 5 by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Steel Valley School District is attempting to identify all children within the district that may be experiencing homelessness.
Due to overwhelming registrations, we are adding a fourth section of kindergarten at Park Elementary School.
