Donated items from Barrett's 12 Days of Giving

Over 12 days in November, Barrett Elementary will be looking at various ways we can make a difference through giving. Each day, we will be highlighting a new way to give back. While we do have a day to celebrate each, donations for all days can be made any time from November 2nd through November 22nd.

Barrett students listened to the high school students talk about the importance of leadership, kindness, and teamwork, met this year's homecoming court, chanted with the cheerleaders, and listened to the Steel Valley Marching Band.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s been a universal increased need for social-emotional learning attention in school. The Project SEEKS SES grant will help Steel Valley address that challenge by purchasing curriculum through Satchel Pulse.

Barrett Elementary is excited to announce that its PBIS program has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support Network for implementing Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of support with fidelity during the 2022-23 school year. Barrett will be recognized at the 2023 Integrated PaPBS Network and MTSS Implementers’ Forum held on November 1 through November 3, 2023 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, PA.

On Tuesday, September 5, Charlie Batch and his volunteers had a special guest with them as they handed out the backpacks full of school supplies to Steel Valley students. Steelers star T.J. Watt and his wife, Dani, joined Batch and volunteers from PepsiCo to deliver the packs.

As a collaboration between UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, Inc., the Care Mobile offers no out-of-pocket cost medical care to children throughout Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. The Care Mobile will be at Barrett October 27th (9:30 am - 2:00 pm) and Steel Valley High School - November 17th (9:30 am - 2:00 pm).

The to-do list for any educator seems almost endless in August. Preparing for the start of the school year is a hectic, exhausting practice. It’s even more crazed when you’re joining a new school district in a new role – the computer system is different, the hallways are a labyrinth, and there is a never-ending stream of information to digest. Kimberly Winters’ to-do list is long, but it can’t match her excitement to be the new principal at Barrett Elementary.

The Act 34 Hearing at Steel Valley

The Steel Valley School District board of school directors, school administrators, and representatives from DRAW Collective publicly presented plans for a new elementary school and listened to feedback from citizens as part of an Act 34 hearing on Thursday, June 22.
