Superintendent's Progress Report on Steel Valley Elementary Construction

Steel Valley Superintendent Bryan M. Macuga shared the following progress report with district staff and families regarding the construction of Steel Valley Elementary. The letter documents the exciting progress the construction team has made, shares which phases have been completed, and what steps are coming next. The new school is on schedule to open in August 2026.

Staff and SV Families: 
I had the opportunity to tour the new Steel Valley Elementary School and see the progress firsthand, and I am excited to provide some updates. The building is truly remarkable; the educational features and overall design will provide our students with a transformational learning experience for years to come. The attention to detail demonstrated by our architects in developing this concept is second to none. After beginning construction in August 2024, the new school is really starting to take shape.

While you can see from the outside how much has been done, I thought it would be valuable to share some of the tremendous milestones of this process:

  • The exterior framework of the school is complete
  • The final steel structural beam was placed in the building June 2025 with a Top Off Ceremony
  • The brickwork around the building is nearing completion
  • The framing within the interior structure of the building is being finalized
  • The Learning Staircase is prepped for concrete
  • The roof installation is nearing completion 
  • The drywall installation begins on September 29, 2025

I’ve visited each of the pilot classrooms we put in place at Park, Barrett, and the Middle School set up to mimic potential classroom furniture and configurations for the new school classrooms, and it’s very encouraging to see how they are being utilized and how class can be reimagined. I genuinely cannot wait to show each of you the amazing features, detail, creativity, functionality, and opportunity when our school finally opens for students in August 2026!

Once complete, our district will have a showcase school that others will look to as a model. Thank you for your continued support of this project.
