National Honor Society inducts 19 new members into Steel Valley chapter

The Steel Valley High School National Honor Society Apollo Chapter inducted 19 new members into the organization during a ceremony held inside the auditorium on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The 55th annual induction ceremony welcomed Steel Valley students who have achieved the requirements for inclusion in the National Honor Society and who embody its traits of character, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Following the Salute to the Flag, led by NHS Secretary Theo Coyne, the inductees, current members, and guests were welcomed by NHS President Aubrey Guciardo. Current members Abbey Novak, Savannah Cibula, Ryan Cameron, and Lily Wright introduced the four qualities of membership to the National Honor Society and shared more about the core tenets of character, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Advisor Mrs. Gwendolyn Berchok led the new members through the formal oath of membership before High School Principal Mr. John Strom presented them with their official certificates. Senior members were awarded medallions, which they will wear during commencement on May 28. 

Each year, Steel Valley teachers make a selection for the Outstanding Student Award. This year, that award was presented to Ryan Cameron.

Steel Valley students recognize a teacher each year who goes above and beyond in the classroom. This year's Outstanding Teacher Award was presented to Mr. Timothy Vickers, who will be retiring at the end of the year.

New members of the Steel Valley National Honor Society include Aaliyah Abdullah, Trinity Booth, Garrett Cherpak, Noah Cochenour, David Gratton, Leah Hahn, Colin Hankle, Jahnelle McCorkle, Sara Nguyen, Kennedy Poston, Amari Randall, Jesse Rangel Ortiz, Lily Ross, Basil Sanders, Geordell Scott, Aubrey Seibel, Marley Soukup, Talia Tozzi, and Zachary Zeffer.

They join current members Darren Blasko, Ryan Cameron, Savannah Cibula, Theo Coyne, Kalynn Gray, Aubrey Guciardo, Adam Keesecker, Rebekah Kleiber, Holden Labishak, Katherine McNeely, Shaterra Meadows, Aston Mitchell, Abigail Novak, Dominique Ruiz, Ryan Stoker, Bailey Versetti, and Lily Wright.
