Barrett Elementary and the Steel Valley School District are beyond proud of the community we have established inside and outside of our school. Every so often, we're reminded of just how far that sense of community extends.
On Wednesday, Barrett received a generous donation from 15-year-old Abigail Petras, a sophomore at Upper St. Clair High School. As part of a project in that school's International Baccalaureate program, Abigail, an aspiring educator, spoke with her aunt, Barrett Elementary teacher Mrs. Beth Catterall about her job and about the school.
She launched a donation drive to collect school supplies, food, and clothing to help serve Barrett students in need. All told, Abigail collected 1,765 items as part of the donation campaign. On Wednesday, she and her parents delivered those supplies to Barrett Elementary principal Mrs. Kim Winters.
Barrett Elementary students and staff could not be more appreciative of the compassion and kindness Abigail has shown with this project. We are truly grateful for this donation, and will put all of the items to good use. Thank you to Abigail and the entire Petras family. You are always welcome in the Steel Valley School District!
