The auditorium was packed for the Steel Valley Music Department's annual Middle School/High School Winter Concert on Thursday, December 11.
The High School Concert Choir opened the show under the direction of Mr. Andrew Roberts and accompanied by Mrs. Julie Mack on piano. The first two pieces were a pair of powerful, inspirational songs - "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around," arranged by Rollo Dilworth, and "City Called Heaven" by Josephine Poelinitz. Next came the ode to friendship, "Count On Me," arranged by Andy Beck.
The choir finished with a powerful rendition of Leonard Cohen's classic "Hallelujah."
The Middle School Forge Voices took the stage next in various age groups, beginning with a pair of arrangements by Roger Emerson - "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel" and Billie Eilish's "Ocean Eyes."
The seasonal tune "It's The Most Wonderful Time of Year" came next, followed by "The Fox."
To close out the choral portion of the show, all of the singers from fifth grade through 12th grade joined together on stage to sing the holiday classic "Carol of the Bells" and "Linus and Lucy" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
After a brief intermission, the concert bands took the stage under the direction of Mr. Chris Petricca. The fifth and sixth graders showed off their progress with holiday classics "Jingle Bells" and "The Dreidel Song," which the sixth graders followed up with "Irontown Christmas" and "Blizzard's Fury."
The high school band played a rendition of Megan Vinther's "Snow on Snow" before being joined by the eighth graders for "Let It Snow."
The seventh graders came on stage to create a full 7th-12th grade band for the final two numbers of the evening - "Variant on an Old English Carol" and the always exciting "Sleigh Ride."
Thank you to everyone who helped make this evening possible so that our choirs and bands could showcase their talents.
