Statement from Superintendent Bryan M. Macuga on passing of state budget

State budget statement

Pennsylvania lawmakers have formally passed the 2025-26 state budget, which includes increased basic education funding for schools to address the achievement gap and further reformations to cyber charter school funding.

Steel Valley School District Superintendent of Schools Mr. Bryan Macuga has issued the following statement in response to the approved budget:

“Fair, equitable funding for our public schools is one of the most critical issues facing the state of Pennsylvania. The increased education funding in this year’s budget, the reformations to cyber charter school funding, and the changes to the school code regarding cyber charter school oversight, are promising steps in supporting public education in all communities throughout the state.

The Steel Valley School District appreciates the effort by Governor Josh Shapiro and the legislature to address the inequities in public education funding. We strongly encourage state leaders to continue to work together to develop a sustainable, long-term basic education funding plan, and to further reform how all charter schools are reimbursed and monitored.”

Bryan M. Macuga, Steel Valley School District Superintendent
