The Steel Valley High School's Chick-fil-A Leader Academy visited Park and Barrett Elementary Schools, where they distributed packs of books that were donated by Chick-fil-A. The high school student-leaders also spent time in the first and second grade classrooms reading to the students. Many of the high school students once attended school at Park or Barrett, so they also got a chance to reminisce with some of their former teachers.

Steel Valley joined over 35,000 high school students nationwide in an effort to give one million books to youth in their local communities as part of Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, a national high school leadership program.

"Thank you to the administrators, teachers, and support staff who all helped to make this project happen and thank you to the Waterfront Chick-fil-A for providing lunch for the high schoolers. This was a great experience for all of the students involved. These student-leaders have the ability to make a positive impact on the young students", said Mr. Shawn McCallister, the district's Athletic/Activities Director and chaperone.

Participating student leaders were Da'ron Barksdale, Haneya Benboujema, Ashley Bulger, Ryan Cameron, Camron Carter, Theo Coyne, Andy Diep, Aubrey Guciardo, Rebekah Kleiber, Holden Labishak, Shaterra Meadows, Olivia Petras, Maverick Preffer, Dylan Smith, Colt Toboz, and Payten Watkins.
