Common Grounds Café Grand Opening a Huge Success at Steel Valley High School!

Steel Valley High School was buzzing with excitement as the doors of the brand-new Common Grounds Café officially opened — and it’s safe to say, the grand opening was a resounding success!

Students and staff alike filled the café on opening day, eager to experience what this unique, student-led initiative is all about. With a host of student helpers and an overwhelming show of support from teachers, administrators, and classmates, the launch of Common Grounds wasn’t just a celebration of coffee — it was a celebration of community, collaboration, and connection.

From the moment the first cup was poured, the café was alive with smiles, laughter, and camaraderie. Students from all corners of the school came together — chatting over drinks, helping behind the counter, and supporting their peers in a space built on the values of inclusion and unity.

The café is proudly run by our Unified Bocce athletes/student partners and Chick-fil-A leadership members, who did an outstanding job serving customers, keeping things running smoothly, and spreading positivity throughout the event. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork truly brought the café’s mission to life — showing that while we all have our differences, we also have “common ground.”

Coaches Shawn and Beth McCallister, who sponsor the café alongside the Steel Valley Unified Bocce team and the Chick-fil-A Leadership Group, expressed pride in the students' efforts and gratitude for the incredible turnout.

“It was amazing to see so many students and staff come together to support this vision,” said High School Principal Mr. John Strom. “This café is about so much more than coffee — it’s about creating a place where everyone belongs.”

The positive energy during the grand opening was contagious. Whether you were grabbing a drink, lending a hand, or simply soaking in the moment, you could feel that something special was happening — something that truly reflects the heart of Steel Valley.

As Common Grounds Café continues to serve up drinks, smiles, and a welcoming environment, it’s clear this space will become a beloved staple in our school. The success of the grand opening is just the beginning — and we can't wait to see the community continue to grow, one cup at a time.
