Wednesday, September 10 was Suicide Prevention Awareness Day.
To recognize this important day, the Steel Valley High School Student Council hosted an informational table during lunch periods. Junior student Hannah Lesser took a leading role in planning and organizing the event and Kamyah Davis, Elaina Fedoris, Claire Peterson, Ashley Bulger, Demaya Clark, Loghan Muha, and Amber Fey helped manage the table.
School counselor, Ms. Sasala, Student Council Sponsor and Mrs. McCallister, were available to answer questions, share resources, and to encourage participation in a special activity. Students created a “post-it ribbon” by writing about something meaningful to them - something worth living for – on colorful notes. This collaborative display served as a powerful symbol of hope and solidarity. Students also received bracelets, ribbons, and other items to promote awareness and support.
Staff and students were encouraged to wear teal and purple, the official colors for suicide prevention, representing the dual focus on mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
