Class of 2029 Celebrates With Eighth Grade Promotion

A promoted student with Mr. Stone

The Class of 2029 moved one step closer to their eventual high school graduation as they received their Eighth Grade Promotion certificates during a special ceremony in the auditorium on Friday, May 16.

Middle School Principal Mr. Clay Stone congratulated the students for their accomplishments and said that he hoped that they had learned more than just what was in their textbooks.

"I hope you've learned how to work with the people who think differently than you," Mr. Stone said. "I hope you've learned that failing is sometimes necessary and that getting back up is what's most important. That you've learned how to cheer each other on and how powerful it can be when we support each other."

Dr. Bethany Fenyus also spoke and congratulated the students. Dr. Fenyus said that when she talked with the eighth graders about what they'll remember the most, a number of different topics came up. Field trips, including the recent one to Washington D.C., were certainly high on the list. So were their teachers, friends, and some of their favorite classes. But the students are also looking forward to so many opportunities in high school. She encouraged all of them to explore and pursue their passions.

"Some of you have focused on reaching the highest academic honors," Dr. Fenyus said. "Others have found passion in athletics, the performing arts, or even giving back to your community. Your options for the future are as broad as all of your individual interests."

Dr. Fenyus then introduced each of the students who were receiving certificates for their promotion to eighth grade.

The promotion ceremony was made possible through the support of the Middle School PTO. Students and their families also enjoyed some light refreshments afterward. Congratulations to the Steel Valley Middle School Class of 2025 and the future High School Class of 2029!
