The Steel Valley High School's Chick-fil-A Leader Academy visited Park and Barrett Elementary Schools, where they distributed packs of books that were donated by Chick-fil-A. The high school student-leaders also spent time in the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms reading to the students. Many of our high school students once attended school and Park or Barrett so they also got a chance to reminisce with some of their former teachers.
The Leader Academy is new to SVHS this year. Teachers and administrators recommended students for the academy based on leadership and potential leadership qualities. Each candidate then had to submit an application and make the commitment to the group to be involved in a number of service projects throughout the year, one of which is the Million Book Giveaway.
"Thank you to the administrators, teachers, and support staff who all helped to make this project happen and thank you to the Waterfront Chick-fil-A for providing lunch for the high schoolers. This was a great experience for all of the students involved. These student-leaders have the ability to make a positive impact on the young students", said Mr. Shawn McCallister, the district's Athletic/Activities Director and chaperone.
