Park honors veterans with annual assembly

A veteran gets a hug from his young family members

Park was honored to celebrate the veterans in our community during a special Veterans Day assembly on Tuesday, November 12.

In appreciation of the service of past, present, and future members of the armed forces, Park students invited veterans from the community as well as special guests to take part in Tuesday's ceremony. Veterans and special guests from district administration and the school board were presented with a special certificate and a small token of our collective appreciation for the sacrifices they've made to serve our country and our community. Among those recognized was Park principal Dr. Tom Shaughnessy, who served as a captain in the U.S. Army, including a year as a platoon leader in Iraq.

Many of the veterans in attendance were presented these items by their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who currently attend Park Elementary.

Each grade performed a song in honor of those who have served. Kindergarten students performed the "Eleven Eleven March," first graders performed "This Land is Your Land," second graders sang "Grand Old Flag," third graders sang "This is My Country," and fourth graders performed "Answering the Call."

Thank you to the Special Events Committee and everyone who lends a hand to help put this annual celebration together. And thank you to the veterans who have bravely answered the call to serve our country.
