Concert Choir Students Participated in PMEA Contempory A Capella Showcase

Eleven Steel Valley Concert Choir students participated in PMEA's first annual Contemporary A Cappella Showcase at Peters Township High School on Saturday, November 2.

Choral director Mr. Roberts reports the kids represented Steel Valley incredibly well! They prepared music on their own, joined approximately 300 other singers from Allegheny County and the surrounding counties in rehearsal, participated in clinics with singers from the professional a cappella group Vocalight, and performed a concert at the end of the evening.

The PMEA Region I A Capella Showcase featured a special appearance by Deke Sharon as guest conductor. Mr. Sharon was the music producer for the Pitch Perfect movie franchise and NBC's The Sing Off. Guest clinicians included Ben Spalding, Kelly Korpusik, Ryan Stumpges, and Emilio Jarufe. The clinicians worked with students and directors to hone their voices and learn the songs.

The Steel Valley participants included Peter Bos, Matthew Fulmore, Michaela Gratton, Kylie Kern, Rebekah Kleiber, Shaterra Meadows, Ryan Packer, Zaiana (Kenie) Porter-Lanier, Morgan Schempp, Gabrielle West, and Paige Yura.
