Please see the following letter from superintendent Bryan M. Macuga regarding a potential Flexible Instruction Day on November 6, 2024.

Dear Steel Valley School District Families:

The Steel Valley School District is acutely aware of the powerful emotions that have been part of this election cycle. As Election Day approaches on Tuesday, November 5, district administrators understand that there is a possibility for intense reactions and disruptions in our community and throughout the country.

In order to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff while empowering them to continue their academic progress, the Steel Valley School District has developed a
contingency plan should there be any unrest or concerning developments in our community following Election Day. The activation of this plan would be made early in the morning on Wednesday, November 6 and immediately communicated to parents and guardians through phone calls, text messages, emails, and website/social media posts.

If this plan is deemed to be necessary, the Steel Valley School District will make the following
changes to its schedule for Wednesday, November, 6:

  • Middle School and High School students are currently scheduled to be off for Parent/Teacher Conferences. The Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held as scheduled for now.
  • Barrett and Park Elementary Schools would shift to a Flexible Instruction Day. Students would be expected to complete FID Packet No. 1 as assigned by their teachers. Staff will be available throughout the day to provide support and answer any assignment related questions.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always of utmost importance to our
community. While we have full confidence that our district schedule will not be disrupted, it is our duty to be prepared for any possible scenario.

We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this process. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your building principals or district administrators with any questions.

Sincerely,

Bryan M. Macuga

Superintendent
