The Steel Valley School District is proud to have a number of long-standing relationships with various community partners and local organizations.

One of the district’s longest partnerships is with MUSA, which offers after school programming at Barrett and Park Elementary Schools. MUSA provides educational programs out of its location in the Steel Valley Council of Governments building on Maple Street in Homestead as well as on location. The after-school program plays a pivotal role in providing flexibility to Barrett and Park families while allowing the students to continue developing relationships and positive habits with their classmates.

The after-school program runs from dismissal to 6 p.m. MUSA’s licensed staff offers help with homework and school projects, brings in community partners for unique educational experiences, and even runs some clubs to supplement individual school clubs. Students enjoy a snack, work on their homework, participate in a club or activity, and enjoy some recess activities in the gym or outside.

Executive Director Michele Charmello said that for students who have to stay until 6 p.m., MUSA has partnered with the Food Bank to provide dinner.

Parents and guardians interested in the after-school program provided by MUSA can contact the organization on its website at musasv.org. There are dedicated pages to the after-school program at Barrett and Park under the “Programs” heading.

Ms. Charmello said that MUSA is happy to take mid-year enrollments or part-time enrollments if a family’s situation changes.

Along with the after-school program, MUSA offers Pre-K and summer camp programs, many of which involve Steel Valley students. Information about both is on the organization’s website.
