Steel Valley School District Board of Directors hires Dr. Brian Plichta as Assistant Superintendent of Schools

MUNHALL – May 23, 2024 – The Steel Valley School District Board of Directors has hired Dr. Brian Plichta as Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Plichta comes to the Steel Valley School District from the West Mifflin Area School District, where he was most recently the freshman principal for West Mifflin Area High School and the K-12 principal for the Titan Cyber Academy.

The Board of Directors officially voted to approve Dr. Plichta’s hiring during its voting meeting on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Dr. Plichta will work with Superintendent of Schools Mr. Bryan M. Macuga to oversee the district’s curriculum, instructional strategies, professional development, and management of federal programs.

“We could not be more excited to add someone of Dr. Plichta’s caliber to the Steel Valley School District,” Mr. Macuga said. “The depth and breadth of his experience as a teacher, as a building administrator, and as a coordinator of multiple programs at West Mifflin will be invaluable as the Steel Valley School District continues to innovate and enhance the educational experience of our students.”

A graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, Dr. Plichta began his educational career as a seventh and eighth grade social studies teacher at West Mifflin Area Middle School. He later served as freshman principal and middle school principal for over a decade, where he helped oversee the addition of seventh and eighth grade students from the Duquesne City School District. Dr. Plichta also served as an elementary school principal and federal programs coordinator before stepping into his current role as freshman principal and K-12 principal of the Titan Cyber Academy.

Dr. Plichta received his master’s in school psychology from Duquesne University, his K-12 principal certification from PennWest California (formerly California University of Pennsylvania), his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Gannon University, and his doctorate of education in administrative leadership from Walden University.

The Steel Valley School District is a public school district that proudly serves the Monongahela Valley communities of Homestead, Munhall and West Homestead.
