Sixth graders visit Reading Ready Pittsburgh

Students at Reading Reading Pittsburgh

Sixth graders made the short trek down to the new Reading Ready Pittsburgh store on 8th Avenue in Homestead on Friday, April 12.

Reading Ready Pittsburgh is a non-profit organization that helps supply children with access to books and enhance engagement through reading. It offers a wide range of programs, and it opened up the store in Homestead in February. Families can stop by the store and pick up free books for their children.

The Steel Valley students spent their time learning more about the differences between fiction and non-fiction, as well as about the different genres that apply to each category. The students in the afternoon group were big fans of fantasy fiction books!

Each student was able to take a selection of books home with them, thanks to the generosity of Reading Ready Pittsburgh. The students also worked on collages that reflected a literary genre and helped sort newly donated books into the appropriate genres.

Thanks to Reading Ready Pittsburgh for supplying our students with more reading material and for hosting our sixth graders!
