Homestead, Pa., November 8, 2023 – The Steel Valley School District (SVSD) has selected the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) to conduct the search for the district’s next superintendent. The district is seeking a candidate following the resignation of former superintendent Edward Wehrer.

PSBA has served Pennsylvania's elected school board directors for nearly 130 years. Drawing on this experience, the association will lead the district through a support search process, which includes community surveying, advertising and recruitment, and assistance with candidate screening.

The search began on Monday, November 6, with applications being accepted through January 2. The selected candidate will be appointed in Spring 2024. The district is seeking a candidate who can have an aptitude for working in a culturally diverse community with a wide range of socioeconomic levels, maintain positive staff and board relations, and oversee major district initiatives – both educationally and operationally – and address the challenges, issues and needs inherent in such projects.

“The Steel Valley School District wishes to thank Mr. Wehrer for his 11 years as superintendent,” said SVSD Board President James Bulger. “We wish him well in his new endeavor. We are confident that our search will vet out a candidate who will lead us into the future not only as a school district but a community.”

Interested candidates should visit edcareergateway.com for additional information and to apply. To assure a review by the board, candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, completed performance assessment and application by January 2, 2024. All other required documents must be submitted or in process. Questions related to the superintendent search can be directed to Erin Eckerd, search consultant with PSBA, at erin.eckerd@psba.org.
