Please see this letter from president Mr. James E. Bulger, vice president Mr. Daniel M. Rojtas, and the Steel Valley School District Board of School Directors regarding the formal appointment of assistant superintendent Mr. Bryan Macuga as the district's interim superintendent.
October 26, 2023
Dear Steel Valley Students, Staff and Families:
As many of you know, earlier this month the Steel Valley School District Board of Directors formally accepted the resignation of Mr. Edward Wehrer as Steel Valley School District Superintendent. Mr. Wehrer’s resignation was effective October 9. We sincerely thank him for his years of service to the district and we wish him well as he embarks on the next stage of his career in education.
Earlier this year, the Steel Valley School Board engaged with the Pennsylvania School Board Association to begin the search for the district’s next superintendent. In August and September, a survey was sent out to the community to solicit feedback regarding the experience and traits desired in candidates for the position. We are encouraged with the progress the PSBA has made, and the feedback we have received from all stakeholders has been invaluable. We look forward to the next steps in this very important process.
While we continue our thorough search for the district’s next superintendent, the board appointed Mr. Bryan Macuga to formally serve as interim superintendent. Mr. Macuga has faithfully served the district for almost two decades as a teacher, building principal, and in his current position as assistant superintendent. It is important for our schools to continue to operate seamlessly during this transition, and we thank Mr. Macuga for stepping into this role.
The Steel Valley School District Board of Directors will continue to update the community on the search process for a new superintendent as warranted.
Sincerely,
Mr. James E. Bulger, President
Mr. Daniel M. Rojtas, Vice President
Steel Valley School District Board of Directors
