Steel Valley hosts NASRO school resource officer training

Throughout the course of this week, police offers and school resource officers from around the state have gathered inside the high school library for training through NASRO.

Steel Valley School District Chief of Police Darrel Parker and high school SRO Dan Boehme, who is also a Munhall police officer, welcomed their fellow officers for the 40-hour course. The training began Monday and lasts the entire week. When the officers have completed the course, they will have national certification as school resource officers.

Wednesday's training was led by Fox Chapel Area School District Chief of Police/Safety and Security Coordinator Joseph Kozarian. The training is extensive and covers any number of situations a school resource officer might encounter, including information on how to investigate and handle outside information - such as a social media post - that might impact their school or district.

NASRO training has multiple levels, including an advanced course and a mental health course. This is the first time it has been hosted at Steel Valley.
