Students eligible for free/reduced lunch to receive extra food benefits

Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch during school will receive extra food benefits called Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) benefits to cover the summer of 2023.

Families with students who were enrolled at Steel Valley through the end of the school year will receive a letter informing them about the program and their eligibility. There is no application for the P-EBT. Students will receive the benefit because of their enrollment at Steel Valley and because Steel Valley participates in the National School Lunch Program.

The P-EBT program was created by Congress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It serves as a temporary resource for families to help cover costs of breakfasts and lunches that students would have received through the National School Lunch Program.

For more information about the program and eligility, please take a moment to read the family guide from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
