Bungee Barbie Lab tests Ms. Dunmire's Math 8 class on Linear Function knowledge

Students measure distance using a Barbie doll, rubber bands and a yardstick

Last week, students in Ms. Dunmire’s Math 8 class put their Linear Function knowledge to the test during our Bungee Barbie Lab.

Students gained an appreciation for the beauty of mathematics by discovering the linear relationship between the number of rubber bands and the distance Barbie falls. Barbie’s safety was dependent upon the student’s ability to collect and graph quality data, derive an equation, and predict the correct number of rubber bands.

Students worked in teams to gather and graph and derived an equation. They also had gained practice making predictions from a linear equation and test those predictions during this lab!

It was a great hands-on learning experience had by all! Congratulations to Period 2-4 winners Landon, Bobby and John and Period 9-10 winners Aubrey, Bella and Braya!
