The District has moved up in the rankings

As part of a rigorous analysis by Niche, a Pittsburgh-based online company, Steel Valley was compared to school districts in the Pittsburgh area and across the state. Niche gave Steel Valley a solid “B” rating, ranking it 38 out of 79 public school districts in the Pittsburgh area and 234 out of 497 throughout Pennsylvania. And, plans are to continue moving up if District Superintendent Edward Wehrer has anything to do with it. “Our teachers, administrators and all of our staff have worked diligently to improve our educational product,” said Wehrer. “The adults in our District genuinely care about our students, and our students are tremendously talented. On top of that, we have the support of the Campbell Foundation and other community groups, which enables us to provide first-rate facilities and the most current technology to our students. Not many public schools offer all of the amenities we do such as iPads for each student, free breakfast and lunch, and a unique, flexible cyber program that adds another dimension to our educational offerings. Combine that with our outstanding athletic and extra-curricular programs, and we’re a fantastic choice for families!” Wehrer added, “I am pleased that Niche looked at multiple criteria in its analysis. Two of the areas that we scored highest were teacher quality and diversity. We have long known that those are two of our strengths, yet until now they were not considered as part of publicized rating systems.” Wehrer is excited about the future direction of the District. “We are striving to be one of the top school systems, period, no matter with whom we are compared. Based on our culture of innovation and hard work, we’ll get there!”
